You are scheduled to load 4700 tons of cargo, 45 tons of crew effects and stores and 323 tons of fuel. Use the blue pages of the Stability Data Reference Book to determine the vessel's mean draft in fresh water.
• Displacement and deadweight from the blue pages of the Stability Data Reference Book • How to convert total loaded weight into a draft using the hydrostatic data tables • Difference between salt water and fresh water drafts and how to adjust between them
• What total weight (cargo + crew effects and stores + fuel) are you adding to the vessel, and how does that relate to the displacement shown in the tables? • When you find the corresponding draft in the hydrostatic (displacement-draft) table, is it listed for salt water or fresh water, and what correction must you apply? • Are you interpolating correctly between the two closest displacement values in the table to get a more precise draft?
• Confirm you are using the correct vessel and loading condition pages (blue pages) before reading off displacement and draft. • Verify your total added weight is summed correctly in tons before entering the table. • Check that you applied the fresh water correction (or density correction) properly if the table is based on salt water data.
