Which drawing view or projection is shown in the illustration? See illustration GS-0001.
• Difference between 3D pictorial views (isometric, oblique) and 2D views (orthographic, sections) • How section lining / hatching is used when an object is imagined cut by a plane • Whether the front of the object is shown in true shape or as if a slice has been removed
• Look closely at the shaded/hatched areas—does the drawing show the outside of the part, or the inside as if material has been cut away? • Ask yourself if you can see three dimensions (width, height, depth) at an angle, or if you are only seeing a flat straight-on view. • Consider whether this drawing is about the external shape of the pump assembly, or about revealing the internal components and how they fit together.
• Check for section-hatching that indicates material has been cut through by a plane. • Verify whether any edges are drawn receding at an angle to show depth; if not, rule out 3D pictorial projections (isometric/oblique). • Confirm if the view is taken straight-on from one side and then "cut open" to show the interior; that points to a specific type of view in drafting.
