What statement is true concerning the illustrated steam turbine bearing lubricating oil flow and temperature indicating device? Illustration SE-0010
⢠Carefully follow the oil flow arrows in the illustration (entering vs. leaving the bearing). ⢠Note where the thermometer bulb is actually sitting in the oil stream (inside the central well or in the outer annulus). ⢠Understand what the sight glass shows: is it positioned so you see flow of oil going into the bearing or coming back from it?
⢠Look at the arrows at the side port and the bottom port. Which one clearly shows oil entering the device first? ⢠Once you know the inlet, ask: Does the oil pass the thermometer bulb before or after it goes to the bearing? ⢠Is the visible flow in the annular (outer) passage associated with the oil on its way to the bearing or on its way from the bearing back to the drain/header?
⢠Confirm which direction each white flow arrow is pointing in the illustration. ⢠Identify exactly where the thermometer bulb is exposed to moving oil (this tells you whether it measures entering or leaving temperature). ⢠Verify whether the sight glass passage is in the same leg of the system as the thermometer, or in the opposite leg (this tells you which one is inlet vs. outlet).
