What information is not vital in a Distress follow on voice transmission after a DSC Alert?
• GMDSS distress procedures after a DSC (Digital Selective Calling) alert • What information is already contained in the DSC alert itself • What information is needed for SAR (Search and Rescue) units to locate and assist you quickly
• Think about what the coast station and rescue services still need to hear in the voice call that they did NOT already get automatically from the DSC alert. • Ask yourself: which of these options would be the least critical in the first few minutes of an emergency when time and clarity are most important? • Consider which items directly help rescuers find you and understand your problem, versus which are mainly administrative or can be passed later.
• Identify what a DSC distress alert normally transmits automatically (e.g., MMSI, position, time). • Decide which items are absolutely essential for immediate response and locating the vessel. • Spot the option that is more about secondary / administrative information rather than urgent operational needs.
