The SS AMERICAN MARINER arrived in port with drafts of: FWD 18'-06", AFT 20'-10". Cargo was loaded and discharged as indicated in table ST-0152 below. Use sheet 2 in the white pages of the Stability Data Reference Book to determine the final drafts.

⢠Use the American Mariner Stability Data Reference Book â Sheet 2 to get hydrostatic values (TPI, MCT 1", LCF) at the initial mean draft and at the final mean draft if needed. ⢠Separate the problem into change of displacement (parallel sinkage/rafting) and change of trim due to longitudinal moments from each load/discharge. ⢠Use the longitudinal moment = weight Ă distance from amidships and relate the net trimming moment to MCT 1" to find the change in trim, then distribute that trim between the bow and stern using the LCF position.
⢠What is the vesselâs initial mean draft, and what hydrostatic values (especially TPI and MCT 1") does Sheet 2 give you at or near that mean draft? ⢠If you total all the loads and discharges, what is the net change in weight and the net longitudinal moment about amidships? Be careful with signs: forward vs aft and load vs discharge. ⢠Once you find the overall change in trim in inches, how do you convert that into separate changes at the forward and aft drafts, using the distance from LCF to each perpendicular?
⢠Verify your sign convention: forward of amidships and loads should create the correct direction of trim, and aft of amidships and discharges the opposite, or vice versa, but be consistent. ⢠Doubleâcheck that you used feet for distances, tons for weights, and converted the resulting trim from inches back into feet and inches when comparing with the answer choices. ⢠After computing both the parallel change in draft (from net weight change using TPI) and the change in trim, confirm that the final FWD + AFT drafts give the correct mean draft that matches your new displacement.
