• Trace the path of the incoming oily bilge mixture from the bilge to the separator and then follow where the oil portion would logically go after separation. • Compare the vertical position of line G to the oil layer inside the separator—would a line at that height more likely carry oil or clean water? • Look at the color of line G and compare it to the colors used for water lines and bilge lines elsewhere in the figure.
• Verify whether line G connects to the oil layer at the top of the separator or to the water section at the bottom. • Check if line G ultimately leads to an overboard discharge, a sludge/oil tank, or back to the bilge. • Confirm that the processed clean water discharge line passes through the oil content monitor (OCD) before going overboard, and see if line G does or does not do this.
