The diesel engine piston crown is indicated by the component labeled __________. See illustration MO-0122.
• Piston crown is the top surface of the piston that forms the bottom of the combustion chamber • Trace the connecting rod up to find the piston and its crown • Distinguish between the piston crown, piston skirt, and cylinder liner in the cross‑section
• Follow the connecting rod upward: which labeled part is directly above it and exposed to the combustion space? • Which of the numbered or lettered labels points to the upper surface of the green piston inside the cylinder, not to the rings or the liner? • Look at where fuel would burn in the cylinder: which label marks the surface that would actually be hit by the burning gases?
• Confirm the choice points to the top face of the piston, not the side of the piston (skirt) or the cylinder liner • Make sure the label is inside the combustion chamber area, just below the cylinder head/valves • Verify your label is aligned with the piston itself, not with rings, wrist pin, or connecting rod
