The diesel engine combustion chamber shown as figure "C" in the illustration is a/an __________. See illustration MO-0068.
• Direct vs indirect injection diesel combustion chambers • How a precombustion/turbulence chamber looks (small separate chamber connected by a narrow passage) • Features of an open combustion chamber in the piston crown
• Look closely at figure C: Is there a small separate chamber above the piston connected by a narrow throat, or is the main combustion space formed directly between the piston bowl and cylinder head? • Where is the injector spraying? Into a small pocket off to the side, or directly into a bowl in the piston? • Compare figure C with the other figures: which ones clearly show a divided chamber, and which one shows only one main volume where all combustion occurs?
• Verify whether figure C shows one undivided main chamber or a secondary chamber connected by a narrow passage • Note if the combustion bowl is machined into the piston crown and open to the cylinder, or if it is contained mostly in the cylinder head • Confirm whether any special small chamber meant mainly to create turbulence/stratification before full combustion is visible in figure C
