• Look at where item "1" is installed in the system. Is it sensing a line that is normally under suction or under positive pressure when oil is being discharged? • If the separator internals were badly fouled, would you expect a very small change or a large abnormal reading on the gauge? • Ask yourself whether a slight vacuum on a compound gauge during suction is typically a sign of normal operation or of instrument failure.
• Confirm whether item "1" is upstream or downstream of the pump module when in oil discharge mode. • Consider what the gauge should read in a healthy system: no flow, normal flow, and severely restricted flow. • Decide if a "slight" vacuum is more consistent with normal suction conditions or with a failed/plugged component or bad gauge.
