Short range RADARs would most likely transmit:
• Pulse width vs. range resolution on RADAR • How pulse repetition rate (fast vs. slow) affects maximum range and short‑range performance • Trade‑off between energy per pulse and ability to distinguish two close targets
• For very short ranges, is it more important to see distant targets or to distinguish two small, close targets separately? • What kind of pulse (narrow vs. wide) gives you better ability to separate two nearby echoes on the display? • If you want frequent updates of rapidly changing, close‑in traffic, would you use a fast or a slow pulse repetition rate?
• Recall that narrow pulses improve range resolution (ability to separate close targets). • Recall that a high pulse repetition frequency (fast rate) is typically used for short‑range settings on marine RADAR. • Eliminate options that combine poor range resolution and/or slow update rate with the needs of short‑range navigation.
