On a PERT network (or arrow or line), what do the circles which are the beginning points or ending points for arrows or lines represent?
β’ PERT network basics β what events and activities are, and how they are shown β’ Difference between an activity (task) and an event or node in project scheduling diagrams β’ What gets numbered on a PERT chart and why
β’ In a PERT chart, ask yourself: do arrows show tasks or do circles show tasks? Which one represents the work actually being done? β’ Think about what needs to be identified by numbers so that you can talk about the order of work (before/after relationships). Is it the work itself or the points in time when work starts/finishes? β’ Consider what the circles could logically represent if arrows show duration between two points. Are they durations themselves, or something that occurs at the start or end of durations?
β’ Verify whether arrows or lines represent the actual task/operation on a PERT chart β’ Check if events/nodes in PERT are usually numbered for identification of sequence (predecessors/successors) β’ Confirm whether a duration (how long a task takes) is normally written on a line/arrow or inside the circle/node
