In an actual installation, which of the flanges are connected to the condenser section of the water maker? See illustration MO-0110.
• Trace the flow of vapor and condensate in the side view to locate the condenser section versus the evaporator section • Identify which bundles or coils are used for cooling/condensing (cold seawater) rather than for heating/evaporating • Match the condenser tubes in the side view with the correct external flanges in the rear view (letters I, M, Q, R)
• On the side view, where does the vapor contact cooler surfaces to turn back into fresh water, and which pipe connections feed that area? • Looking at the rear view, which flanges clearly serve the upper tube bundle versus the lower one, and which of those corresponds to the condenser section? • Which of the labeled flanges are part of the seawater cooling circuit and which belong to the brine or distillate circuits?
• Make sure you can clearly distinguish the evaporator (heated) section from the condenser (cooled) section in the side view before picking flanges • Verify that the flanges you choose both connect to the same tube bundle/section that is identified as the condenser • Double-check that the flanges you select are not part of the feed/brine discharge or distillate lines, but only the cooling water in/out for the condenser
