Identify the system shown in the illustration. See illustration SG-0024.
• Trace the flow of steam from the boilers and note where it is supplied (galley, laundry, fuel oil heaters, distilling plant, etc.). • Compare what you see with the normal purposes of bleed steam, auxiliary steam, high‑pressure drains, and auxiliary condensate systems on a steam ship. • Look for labels such as "to main condenser," "auxiliary condenser," "deaerating feed tank," and any notes about augmenting steam to help identify the main function of this system.
• Ask yourself: Is this diagram mainly about removing condensate/drains, or about supplying usable steam to various services around the ship? • Does the steam shown here come directly from turbine extractions, or from the boiler headers through dedicated regulating/stop valves? • If this were an auxiliary condensate or drain system, what components and flow direction would you expect to see that might be missing here?
• Verify whether the primary medium being controlled in most lines is steam or condensate (liquid water). • Check if the system’s main outlets feed hotel services and heaters (galley, laundry, fuel oil heaters, distilling plant), which is characteristic of one particular system. • Confirm whether any lines are clearly marked as bleed/extraction steam from turbines or as a dedicated drain collection network to the main condenser.
