How many independent bilge systems is the COASTAL DRILLER equipped with?
• Bilge system design on offshore drilling units (where bilges are needed and why redundancy matters) • The difference between bilge suctions in a space and independent bilge systems on the vessel • Where to find machinery and bilge system details in the COASTAL DRILLER’s vessel description / plans used for the exam
• Look at how many completely separate bilge systems are described, not just how many pumps or suctions are in each space. • Ask yourself: if one system failed, how many other systems could still independently dewater other compartments? • Check the machinery spaces and key watertight compartments: how are they grouped under each independent bilge line or system?
• Verify in the COASTAL DRILLER information booklet or exam reference where the bilge system is diagrammed or described in text (often near machinery or piping systems). • Confirm you are counting only independent systems (separately routed / valved) and not just the number of bilge pumps. • Make sure each system you count can operate independently to serve its assigned compartments without relying on another bilge line.
