BOTH INTERNATIONAL & INLAND If you anchor your 25-meter vessel in a harbor, what light(s) must you show?
β’ Rule 30 β Anchored Vessels and Vessels Aground in the Navigation Rules β’ Different light requirements for vessels under 50 meters vs. 50 meters and over when at anchor β’ The meaning and use of all-round white anchor lights
β’ First, think about what the Navigation Rules require for a power-driven vessel under 50 meters in length when it is at anchor in a harbor or anchorage, not underway. β’ Ask yourself: does a 25-meter vessel need one anchor light or two, and where would they normally be placed if two were required? β’ Consider whether red lights or normal deck lights are ever used as the primary required anchor signal under the Rules.
β’ Verify in Rule 30 what is required for an anchored vessel under 50 meters in length. β’ Check whether the second all-round white light (fore and aft) only applies to vessels of 50 meters or more. β’ Confirm that deck lights or a single all-round red are not listed as the standard anchor-light requirement for this size vessel.
