BOTH INTERNATIONAL & INLAND A vessel at anchor shall display, between sunrise and sunset, on the forward part of the vessel where it can best be seen which shape?
• Rule 30 – Anchored Vessels and Vessels Aground in the Navigation Rules • Difference between lights at night and shapes by day • Standard day shapes such as ball, cone, cylinder and what they indicate
• Think about what day shape is used for a vessel that is not making way but is simply held in position by her anchor • Ask yourself: is the required signal one shape or more than one shape for an ordinary power‑driven vessel at anchor? • Consider whether any of the answers mix up signals used for other conditions (like restricted ability to maneuver or aground)
• Verify in Rule 30 what single day shape is shown by a vessel at anchor during daylight. • Check which colors are actually specified for day shapes in the rules (are they multicolored or a single color?). • Confirm that the day shape is shown in the forward part of the vessel where it can best be seen, and that only one such shape is normally required for a vessel of ordinary size at anchor.
