Which GMDSS control selection may result in limited receiving range?
• VHF squelch control and how it affects weak signal reception • What happens when a channel selector is not locked exactly onto an assigned channel frequency • Difference between transmitter power setting and receiver sensitivity/range
• For each option, ask: does this mainly affect transmitting, receiving, or both? • Which adjustment could cause you to miss weak incoming signals even though strong signals are still heard? • If the radio is set between channels, will it properly receive traffic assigned to one of those channels?
• Review how squelch works: what does turning it up vs. down actually do to weak signals? • Remember that official channels are on fixed frequencies, not in-between positions on the selector. • Verify which control affects receiver sensitivity to weak signals rather than output power of your own transmissions.
