Where would you find the FCC authorization for transmitting on your rig's EPIRB?
• EPIRB (Emergency Position-Indicating Radio Beacon) – what legal authorization it needs to transmit • Difference between vessel safety equipment markings vs. radio station licensing documents • What the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) actually issues and controls on a vessel
• Which of these choices is specifically an FCC-related document, rather than a Coast Guard inspection or shipboard record? • Which item would cover all radio transmitters on board (VHF, MF/HF, satellite, EPIRB), not just one piece of gear? • For an individual EPIRB unit, what information is usually printed right on the beacon, and is that the same thing as FCC authorization?
• Identify which option is the FCC-issued license for the vessel’s radio station • Separate USCG inspection documents from radio licensing documents • Consider whether the FCC would issue authorization on a logbook entry or sticker, or on a formal licensing document
