🔍 Key Concepts

• SOLAS / CFR requirements for lifejacket stowage on passenger and cargo vessels • Meaning of readily accessible in an emergency situation • Why locking or remote locations can slow abandon ship response

💭 Think About

• In an emergency where people must abandon ship quickly, which option would allow the fastest distribution of lifejackets to all persons on board? • Think about whether every person needs to go to a single place (like a survival craft or messroom) to get a lifejacket, or whether they should be able to reach one from multiple areas of the vessel. • Would regulations generally support locking safety equipment away, or keeping it quickly available without needing keys or special access?

✅ Before You Answer

• Check which choices allow quick access without keys in an emergency. • Consider whether regulations expect lifejackets to be available throughout accommodation and working spaces, not just at embarkation stations. • Eliminate any options that would obviously slow down or block access to lifejackets during an emergency.
