What is the name for the device shown in figure "A" of the illustration? Illustration EL-0064
⢠Compare the number of diodes and transformer connections in A, B, and C. ⢠Look at the output waveform in figure A and notice what happens to the negative half-cycles of the AC input. ⢠Recall the difference between a filter (which smooths DC) and a rectifier (which converts AC to pulsating DC).
⢠In figure A, does the circuit conduct during both halves of the AC cycle, or only during one? How does that relate to the type of rectifier? ⢠Which options describe circuits that use more than one diode to utilize both halves of the AC waveform? How does that compare to what you see in A? ⢠Does figure A show any capacitor or inductor that would smooth the voltage into more constant DC, or does it just block one half of the waveform?
⢠Verify how many diodes are physically drawn in figure A. ⢠Confirm whether the output waveform in A includes one pulse per input cycle or two pulses per cycle. ⢠Check that a DC filter would normally be drawn with a capacitor and/or inductor after the rectifier, which you may or may not see in figure A.
