Q

What equipment is used in or near the survival craft?

🔍 Key Concepts

• Survival craft equipment required by SOLAS and 46 CFR for lifeboats and life rafts • The primary purpose of emergency radio beacons used in distress situations • Difference between shipboard navigation/communication systems and equipment stowed with survival craft

💭 Think About

• Ask yourself: which option is specifically designed to be attached to, or deployed with, lifeboats or life rafts in an emergency? • Which of these items sends a distress alert and location to rescue services when you abandon ship? • Which devices listed are normally fixed on the bridge or in the ship’s navigation spaces, rather than placed in or near survival craft?

✅ Before You Answer

• Verify which option is a self-contained emergency beacon associated with distress and location signaling • Eliminate items that are permanently installed ship’s equipment (used for routine navigation or weather information) • Confirm which term refers to a satellite system/network, not the physical unit you put in a liferaft
