Question 1 of 31093

The maximum weight for the COASTAL DRILLER in severe storm conditions is __________.

🔍 Key Concepts

• Review the COASTAL DRILLER stability/operating manual table for maximum allowable variable deck load or maximum operating displacement in severe storm conditions. • Understand that kips means 1,000 pounds of force, so compare the figures as total allowable weight, not tons. • Note the difference between normal operating limits and severe storm / survival limits in the manual.

💭 Think About

• Which specific table or figure in the COASTAL DRILLER manual lists weight limits for different environmental conditions (operating vs. severe storm)? • Do severe storm (survival) conditions usually allow more or less total weight compared to normal operating conditions, and why would that be from a stability standpoint? • How do the listed options compare to the documented severe storm limit—are some clearly above the stated maximum for that condition?

✅ Before You Answer

• Confirm you are reading the severe storm (or survival) condition line, not the normal operating line. • Verify the unit in the manual is kips and not long tons or metric tons before comparing to the answer choices. • Double-check that you are using the maximum total weight/displacement value, not an intermediate value such as variable load only.
