🔍 Key Concepts

• MODU (Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit) safety requirements in 46 CFR • Purpose and risks of line-throwing appliances (projectile, rocket, or mortar-launched lines) • Hazards of ignition sources in certain environments

💭 Think About

• Think about what a line-throwing device actually does when fired and what kind of energy or effect it produces. • Which of the four options describes a condition where that effect could create a much more serious hazard than usual? • On a drilling unit, where are the greatest concerns about ignition sources and what type of atmosphere might be present there?

✅ Before You Answer

• Identify which option describes a clearly prohibited safety condition under federal regulations, not just something that is inconvenient or undesirable. • Ask yourself: Which choice is linked to fire/explosion risk, not just to bad weather or crowding? • Recall that MODUs often work with flammable gases and vapors – which answer choice directly connects to that concern?
