🔍 Key Concepts

• Roll period and what it tells you about how fast a vessel or unit is rolling • Relationship between roll angle (amplitude) and structural design limits of jack-up legs or similar units • Typical roll periods for small, quick motions vs. slow, gentle motions

💭 Think About

• For a 6° single roll, would the design limit be more likely associated with a very fast, snappy roll or a slower, more gentle roll? • Compare each option: which roll period suggests a very rapid motion, and which suggests a slower motion that would put less dynamic load on the legs? • Think about comfort and structural loading: which periods feel like a sharp jerk versus a slow sway?

✅ Before You Answer

• Identify which answer choices correspond to very quick roll versus moderate or slow roll • Consider that shorter periods mean more cycles per minute and usually higher dynamic forces • Eliminate choices that imply an unrealistically fast or harsh roll for staying within design limits at only 6° amplitude
