Output voltage of a dynamotor may be regulated:
• Dynamotor operation: how a motor-generator combination creates DC output voltage • Methods of voltage regulation: mechanical (speed) vs electrical (resistance in series) • Effect of series resistance on load voltage and current
• Think about what directly controls the generated voltage in a DC generator: what role does rotational speed play? • Consider what happens to the voltage at the load when you add resistance in series with the output: does it change the source voltage or just what the load receives? • Ask yourself whether both methods are truly "regulating the output voltage" of the dynamotor itself, or if one method only wastes power and drops voltage under load.
• Be clear on the difference between changing the generated EMF (inside the dynamotor) and dropping voltage externally with a resistor • Consider how each method affects efficiency and heat dissipation • Verify which option(s) actually constitute voltage regulation of the dynamotor rather than simply limiting load current or wasting power
