🔍 Key Concepts

• Use the reference station (Baltimore #8574680) to find the times of the first and second high waters on 3 October 2023. • Then apply the time offsets for the subordinate station (#8574821 Hawkins Point) shown at the bottom of the illustration (note it says Time offsets (high: 0 min. low: 6 min.)). • Remember that the berth is between the reference and subordinate stations, so think about how that affects which listed time you should use.

💭 Think About

• From the table for 3 October at the reference station, what time is the second high tide? • For the subordinate station, what is the listed time of the second high tide on 3 October, and how does the stated time offset compare to the reference station? • If your berth lies between the two, should the predicted docking time be closer to the reference station’s high tide time, the subordinate station’s time, or exactly match one of them?

✅ Before You Answer

• Be sure you are reading the correct date (2023/10/03) and the second high tide, not the first. • Confirm you understand that the time offsets shown are additions or subtractions to the reference station times, and check whether the offset for high tide is zero minutes here. • Before picking a choice, compare the candidate times against both stations’ second-high-tide predictions to see which option fits the “between the two stations” location.
