Oil product samples should be taken at the commencement and completion of loading operations. As the person in charge, where should the the final samples be taken?
• Cargo sampling points on tankers and shore facilities • Purpose of final samples after loading is complete • Difference between sampling the vessel’s cargo versus the shore system
• Which location best represents the condition and quality of the entire cargo that will actually be transported by the ship? • At the end of loading, do you want to confirm the shore line contents, or what is now inside the ship for custody/quality records? • Which sampling point would be used later if there is a dispute about cargo quality during the voyage or at discharge?
• Make sure the sampling point is part of the cargo as finally loaded on board, not just in the transfer system. • Confirm which point is standard for custody transfer / quality certification between ship and terminal. • Eliminate options that only monitor line contents or low points that can trap residue rather than represent the full cargo.
