In using SafetyNET™ for the receipt of MSI (Maritime Safety Information):
• SafetyNET™ MSI broadcasts and how they are sent via Inmarsat‑C • Difference between logged-in status of an SES and its EGC (Enhanced Group Calling) reception • Types of messages: scheduled MSI vs unscheduled Distress/Urgency EGC broadcasts
• Ask yourself: Does an Inmarsat‑C terminal need to be fully logged in to the network to receive EGC distress/urgency broadcasts, or can some broadcasts arrive regardless of log‑in status? • Consider what EGC capability actually does: can a terminal receive any SafetyNET MSI at all without EGC, or is EGC the basic requirement for MSI? • If more than one statement looks true by itself, check whether they can ALL be true at the same time or if one of them contradicts the others.
• Verify from GMDSS/SafetyNET guidance whether EGC is mandatory for receiving MSI via SafetyNET. • Verify whether scheduled MSI messages behave differently from unscheduled Distress/Urgency messages with respect to SES log‑in status. • Check if any option would make another option impossible (for example, if MSI cannot be received without EGC, would that affect options about messages when not logged in?).
