In the device shown in the illustration, what is the function of item "6"? See illustration GS-0153.
• Location and shape of item 6 inside the separator tank module • How an automatic oily water separator keeps the oil/water interface at the right height • Where sacrificial anodes are normally mounted and what they look like
• Look at where item 6 is positioned relative to the oil layer, water layer, and the weir or outlet at item 8. What type of control would need to be in that exact spot? • Why might there be two identical elements for item 6 instead of just one? What type of sensing or control often uses a pair of probes? • If the unit needs to switch between overboard discharge and recirculating/sludge discharge, which component in the tank would send the signal to do that?
• Verify whether item 6 is in contact with the liquid and extends vertically, as a level or interface sensor would, rather than bolted to the shell like an anode. • Check if temperature control for this system would more likely be done in the heating or pump module, not high up in the separator tank. • Consider whether protecting the tank from corrosion would require only two small pieces inside, or multiple anodes spaced around the shell.
