Question 1 of 31048

If there is a discrepancy in the cargo totals, between the cargo onboard the vessel and the cargo listed in the cargo manifest, the more accurate account of cargo totals can be found in which item?

🔍 Key Concepts

• Difference between contract documents (agreements between shipper/charterer/owner) and cargo receipt documents (what was actually loaded) • What information is normally shown on a Bill of Lading versus a Charter Party • Which document is signed as a receipt for the goods actually on board

💭 Think About

• Which of these four choices is primarily an agreement about the terms of employment or hire of the ship, rather than a record of the physical cargo on board? • Which document is normally issued/signed after cargo is loaded and acknowledges the quantity and condition of the cargo actually received on board? • If the manifest and this document disagree, which one would usually be treated as the best evidence of what the carrier actually received?

✅ Before You Answer

• Identify which option is a receipt for cargo actually shipped, not just a contract. • Eliminate any documents that mainly deal with crew pay, readiness to load/discharge, or freight/charter terms, rather than listing cargo quantities. • Confirm which document is commonly used as legal evidence of cargo receipt and title in cargo disputes.
