How might you reduce the inductance of an antenna coil?
• Inductance and number of turns in a coil • Effect of core permeability on inductance • How coil geometry and spacing of turns affect inductance
• If you keep the coil size the same, what happens to inductance when you increase vs decrease the number of turns? • Does a material with higher magnetic permeability make it easier or harder to create magnetic flux for the same current? How does that change inductance? • When turns are closer together, does their magnetic field coupling increase or decrease, and what does that do to inductance?
• Recall the basic relationship: inductance is roughly proportional to the square of the number of turns. • Higher core permeability generally means higher inductance, not lower. • Tighter coupling between turns (less spacing) tends to increase mutual inductance between turns.
