Question 1 of 31048

Q

Where is the knife on an inflatable liferaft always located?

🔍 Key Concepts

• Standard SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) equipment layout for inflatable liferafts • How emergency tools must be positioned for quick access during launching and boarding • The difference between equipment stored inside containers/bags vs. items meant to be immediately reachable from outside or at the entrance

💭 Think About

• When you first board an inflated liferaft from the water, which location would let you reach a cutting tool fastest without digging through gear? • Why might a knife need to be reachable even before everyone is fully aboard or before equipment bags are opened? • Think about what the knife may need to cut in an emergency right after launching—how would that affect where it’s mounted or stored?

✅ Before You Answer

• Check which option describes a place that is fixed and obvious, not something you might have to search for. • Verify which locations would still be accessible if people are crowded inside the raft and some equipment is hard to reach. • Make sure the location you choose fits the idea of a knife being standardized and immediately available on all SOLAS-type inflatable liferafts.
