BOTH INTERNATIONAL & INLAND A vessel engaged in mineclearing shows special identity lights __________.
• Rule 27 – Vessels Not Under Command or Restricted in Their Ability to Manoeuvre (includes mineclearing) • The purpose and color of mineclearing identity lights • Whether special operations lights are shown instead of or in addition to normal navigation lights
• Think about what the special green mineclearing lights are telling other vessels about how close they may safely approach. • Consider whether a mineclearing vessel that is power-driven and underway would still need to show her normal power-driven vessel lights. • Ask yourself if the rule is only describing the color/shape of the lights, or if it also tells you about a specific safe distance to stay away.
• Verify in Navigation Rules, Rule 27(f), what color and type (all‑round or not) the mineclearing lights are. • Check whether Rule 27 says other vessels must not approach within a specific distance of the mineclearing vessel. • Confirm if Rule 27 states that these special lights are displayed along with the usual lights for a power-driven vessel when making way.
