BOTH INTERNATIONAL & INLAND A 25-meter vessel trawling is required to exhibit which shape(s)?
• Rule 26 – Fishing Vessels in the Navigation Rules (COLREGS/Inland) • The difference between trawling and fishing other than trawling day shapes • Which shapes are used for sailing + engine (motorsailing) and for restricted in ability to maneuver so you can eliminate wrong choices
• Look up the day shapes required for a vessel engaged in trawling and note exactly how many shapes and what configuration are specified. • Compare those trawling shapes with the shapes for fishing other than trawling and make sure you do not mix the two. • Go through each option and ask: does this shape normally indicate fishing, motorsailing, restricted maneuverability, or something else?
• Verify in Rule 26 whether a vessel engaged in trawling shows the same day shape as a vessel fishing other than trawling, or a different one. • Identify which option (if any) is associated with motorsailing (sailing vessel also using engine) so you can rule it out. • Confirm which option corresponds to the usual day shape for fishing operations so you can match it to trawling.
