Question 1 of 31048

Q

A mariner whose credential has been revoked shall not be issued another credential without which of the following?

🔍 Key Concepts

• USCG chain of authority for credentials (local Officer in Charge, Marine Inspection vs. Coast Guard Headquarters) • Difference between suspension/expiration and revocation of a credential • Who has the power to approve reissuance after revocation under 46 CFR (verify in current regulations)

💭 Think About

• Which of these officials actually has service-wide authority, not just local or case-specific authority? • In a revocation case, does simply passing a new exam restore your right to hold a credential, or must someone first decide you are again suitable? • Does an administrative law judge normally initiate discipline, or do they also control when/if a new credential may be issued later?

✅ Before You Answer

• Verify in 46 CFR, Part 10 (Licensing of Maritime Personnel) who must approve issuance of a new credential after a prior revocation. • Check which role is responsible for overall policy and final approval for credentials, not just conducting hearings. • Confirm that revocation is more serious than non‑renewal, and look for any special reinstatement/issuance authority tied to that seriousness.
